Charles Whitaker

Charles Samuel Whitaker, 83, a life-long resident of Buncombe County, passed away at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville on September 1, 2018.

He was the son of C. E. and Martha Mae Whitaker.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Jane Whitaker (Sis) and his sister-in-law Alice Hershey Whitaker.

Surviving him are his brothers, Edwin W. Whitaker and wife Mary of Asheville, Max O. Whitaker of North Augusta, SC and his sister Betty Shackelton and husband Bill of Asheville.  He is also survived by three nieces and four nephews.

Charles attended Biltmore High School where he played basketball and as an adult he coached Pony League baseball with his brother Edwin.  He served his country during the Korean War as a member of the Naval Reserves.

Charles and Sis enjoyed camping, fishing and car shows.  He was a member of the Liars Club at Burger King in Asheville.

Services will occur at the John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville.
