Clyde Stogner

January 25, 1950 — August 9, 2020

Asheville

Clyde Leroy Stogner passed on August 9th, 2020 at 11:20 AM at his home at 20 Elkmont Drive in Asheville, NC when his heart stopped after a long illness.  He was born January 25, 1950 and emigrated as a small boy from Russia.  He is survived by a daughter, a son, niece and grand niece, and grand children, as well as a number of close friends.

His favorite charity was Muscular Dystrophy for children.  He truly loved raising money for the children and worked with several motorcycle organizations to do so every year for about 40 years.  In recent years when he was semi-retired he did landscape and tree work.  As a young man he served with the Marine Corps in Cambodia and Vietnam, spending several years in prison camp.  After the war he spear headed the rescue of a large number of prisoners of war from Cambodian prison camps.

Clyde will be remembered for his sense of humor, for his quickness to react, for his way of looking out for the underdog and people who needed protection such as elders, children, and people stranded on the highway.  It was a welcome sight to see him pull up on his motorcycle if you were broken down on the roadside.

With a heavy heart we bid him a do and send him our love and friendship on his journey.

We are having a memorial service in a little country chapel up on the mountain in Madison County on Sunday September 6th according to his wishes.

After the memorial we will gather at the church for more music, and to share a few memories and stories.

There is enough room to maintain social distancing inside plus lots of screen windows, plus a front yard through the double front doors.   If you are driving a car or truck and have a folding chair or two you may want to bring them along.

The drive to the church where we will have the memorial service looks to be fine for regular cars and motorcycles.  Continuing on up the mountain requires a 4 wheel drive or truck.

RSVP if you can by Friday the 4th so we can provide for everyone.   You may contact Carol Dreessen or Steve Ensley via Facebook messenger, or leave a message with A Simple Cremation, 828-418-6486.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent In Memory of Clyde L Stogner on behalf of the WNC Chapter, address: MDA, 161 N. Clark, Suite 3550, Chicago, IL 60601.

Blessings to all of Clyde’s friends and family and his “children” through Muscular Dystrophy. May all thrive and enjoy the fruits of a warm heart.
