Earl Seth Davis

June 21, 1939 — October 11, 2024

Earl S. Davis, 85, died peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, at The Elizabeth House at Four Seasons Hospice in Flat Rock, NC. Born June 21, 1939, in Haywood County, he was a son of the late Theodore Hunley Davis and Myrtle Kuykendall Guy. Earl lived most of his life in Candler, North Carolina. He graduated from Enka High School, then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise, and afterwards was employed by American Enka, Northup Corporation, and Wilsonart. He was a member of the Piney Mountain U.M.C.

In addition to his parents Earl was preceded in death by his siblings, Calvin LeFain Davis, Richard Ernest Davis, Sylvia Jo Davis, and Ronald Dean Davis. Surviving are his spouse, Laura Jane (Janie) Davis, of Columbus, NC; son, Brian Davis, and spouse, Beth, of Asheville, NC; daughter, Pamela Ambrose, and spouse, Scott Garrett, of Woodfin, NC; grandchildren, Zeke Davis of Raleigh, NC, Adam Davis of Boone, NC, and Van Davis of Asheville, NC; and Janie’s children and their families: Steven Edwards (Ruthanne) of Charlevoix, MI, Robert Edwards of Savannah, GA, Ronald Trapania of Candler, NC, and Jennifer Gruell (Denny), plus 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Earl had a great sense of humor and was eternally politically incorrect. He was a life-long trout fisherman, a free spirit who loved to travel with his wife with their RV in tow, an adventure-seeking gold miner in places like Costa Rica, Arizona, California, and Washington, and an avid reader of just about everything, but he was especially fond of science fiction novels. He would be gravely disappointed if we failed to mention that Earl was a diehard Carolina basketball fan. Per Earl’s wishes, the family will hold a private gathering by his favorite mountain trout stream.
