Floyd “Jay” Shelton Sr., 78, of Old Fort, NC, passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2024, at Mission Hospital McDowell Campus. He was born on October 15, 1945, in Madison, North Carolina, to the late Paul M. and Nellie Wyatt Shelton.
A physically imposing figure with a larger-than-life personality earned him the name Big Jay from friends and family. Jay was a master tile setter and the proud owner of Tile Services for over 31 years. An avid hunter he cherished his time hunting in Georgia with his family and nephew Alvin.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his son, David M. Shelton; grandson Preston Jay Shelton; sisters, Betty Jean Edwards, Shirley Christine Brown and Ethel (Valda) Treadway; brothers Randal, Bud, Troy and James Shelton.
Left to honor his memory is his wife Pearl “Liza” Shelton; daughters, Tammy Ray (Dwayne) of Black Mountain, Lisa Taylor (Mark) of Marshall; Floyd Jay Shelton Jr. (Krystal) of Asheville; grandchildren, Jessica Melton, Tamara Ray, Jasmine Shelton, Kota Ray, Natalie Taylor, Brianna Taylor, Jacob Shelton; 10 great grandchildren and brother, William (Bill) Shelton.
A Celebration of Life ceremony to be held at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Redmond Church, 2675 Bear Creek Road, Marshall, NC 28753.
