Mark Roberts

Heaven’s gate opened this past Sunday, April 25, 2021 to allow William Mark Roberts to enter bliss.  After about three years of fighting metastatic melanoma, he looked forward to joining all his family, friends and neighbors that had gone on before him.

He was born July 3, 1959 to the late Billy Gene and Ruby Hylton Roberts and spent his life in the Jupiter and Madison County area.  He married the love of his life Emily Breedlove in 1998.

An accomplished carpenter and craftsman, he loved woodworking and spent many hours working in his woodshop.  He loved the home he and Emily built, side by side, and you could always find them there working together on their place.  Where there was one, you would find the other.  He was loved and adored by so many.

In addition to his wife, Emily of Marshall, he leaves behind his sister, Jean of Weaverville and many cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Mark was thankful for his cousin Church, who traveled from the eastern area of NC several times to spend the day with him.  His long-time friend Bobby Coxe who checked on him nearly every day.  Also, his longtime friend, Dennis Hunter, that never missed a week of spending a day with him to just sit and visit.  His precious niece, Ciara Lane, a nurse, and special person.  She came often to tend to him and love on him.  His sisters-in-law, Delores Lane of Brevard and Cathy Merrill of Weaverville who were by his side constantly from the start, helping and doing anything possible to make life easier for him. His brothers-in-law, Eddie Shufford and Chris Breedlove who checked on him often and shared jokes and memories.  Also, his dear mother-in-law, Dixie Owen of Candler who loved him like her own and was always proud of him.

There are many who loved him, and he will always be greatly missed however, we are happy to know he is home now, safe, pain-free, no longer sick and worried.

The family also thanks Care Partners Hospice Care and the team that vigilantly cared for Mark and Emily through this very difficult time.  Especially his nurse, Angi White who became “family” during all these months.  She stayed devoted to Mark’s care and comfort even on her days off and late at night. If not for her and the “team” life would not have been so pleasant and joyous for him during the last months of his life.  We are eternally grateful.
