Maxine Mease Queen

November 28, 1928 — February 16, 2025

Maxine M. Queen, 96, passed away on February 16, 2025 at Autumn Care of Waynesville.

Maxine was born in Canton, N.C. to Frank Mease and Tulen Henson Mease. She was also preceded

in death by her husband, D.B. Queen, and sisters Louise M. Reno and Frankie Ruth M. Queen. Maxine

had fond memories of growing up on Henson Cove Road with her sisters and having aunts, uncles and

cousins living In the same community. She was a graduate of Bethel High School and, as a youth, was

a member of Springhill Baptist Church. Later, she had been a member of First Baptist Church of

Waynesville. Know as “Mac" to her sisters, nieces and nephews, she enjoyed staying in touch with her

extended family through cards, phone calls and family gatherings.

After retiring from Belk-Hudson/ Belk with thirty-three years of service, Maxine greeted customers

and friends at the produce stand on her son's farm for several years and spent many hours canning and

freezing fresh vegetables from the farm for her family to enjoy year round. Before moving to Autumn

Care three years ago, she looked forward to neighbors, friends and family visiting on her back porch

and always had a fresh pot of coffee ready for them.

She Is survived by her children Sharon Q. Loftis and Richard S. Queen(Beth) and was a doting

grandmother to Scott Loftis(Laura), Sherry Loftis-Hall(Mike), Drew Queen(Jessica) and Brody

Queen(Lyndsay). She is also survived by her adored great-grandchildren Evan Loftis, Eric Loftis, Carter

Hall, Izzy Queen, Marley Queen, Zeik Queen, chosen great-grandchildren Hazel and Judah Litty and

several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Autumn Care and Haywood Hospice and Palliative Care for

their care and support.

A Family Graveside service for Maxine and her husband, D.B., has been planned. In Lieu of

flowers, memorials are requested for Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1918 Murray Road,

Canton, N.C. 28716.
