Candler

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Allen Stewart, who was born on January 14, 1952, and passed away on February 21, 2025. Roger left this life in the same way he lived it, with quiet resolve, dignity, and surrounded by his loving family.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Stewart, and his devoted daughters, Christy Godfrey (Kevin) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Melonie O’Connell (Joshua) of Charlotte, NC. Roger, known as Papaw, was a proud grandfather to six grandsons, soon to be seven, who will forever cherish the memories of their time spent with him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Martha Stewart, and beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Roger loved living in the mountains of Western North Carolina, playing golf with his trio of buddies, and helping plants, trees, and his children and grandchildren grow and flourish. His gentle nature, quiet strength and unconditional love touched the lives of many and will continue to inspire those who knew him.

A memorial service will be held in Roger's honor at Stony Fork Baptist Church in Candler, NC, on March 1, 2025. The family will receive guests at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary, and services will commence at 2 p.m.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and medical professionals for the care Roger received during his time at Mission Hospital and Four Seasons Hospice, and to the many family and friends who helped along the way. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Roger's generous spirit, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Four Seasons Hospice. Although Roger is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness and gentle, steadfast love will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
