Arden, NC

Roy Marvin Taylor, 79, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, departed this life on Sunday, September 9, 2018, peacefully at his home in Asheville, NC after a brief illness. Born April 9, 1939, in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Roy Hanford Taylor and Helen Leona (Taylor) Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Tonzia T. Bishop; son, Timothy M. Taylor; and brothers, Eugene H. Taylor and Thomas W. Taylor (Margaret).

Marvin was a graduate of Spartanburg High Class of 1957 and Limestone College Class of 1968. He was a U.S. Army veteran and upon being discharged in 1964, spent 75 years in Spartanburg, SC, moving to Asheville in 2016.

Marvin was the founder and owner of Sun Supply Co., a heating and air conditioning wholesale business, throughout the 1980's. An avid golfer, talented woodworker, and Spartanburg Sertoma Club member, he enjoyed entertaining his friends and family with daring water-ski antics and "Boogie Woogie" piano playing. He loved the camaraderie of his golfing and handball brothers, his "spades partners," and "his long lost cousins." He will be missed dearly for his quick humor and his loving, generous spirit.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Layne Burns Taylor; sister, Elithe Turner of Piedmont, SC; daughter-in-law, Beth Taylor of Spartanburg, SC; son-in-law, Joey Praytor of Spartanburg, SC; stepchildren, John B.
